About the Author

Peter Ronan

Peter Ronan is a British children's author and creator of the growing Moonbeam Books universe, where every story begins with curiosity and every adventure invites readers to discover something new.

Inspired by the charm of traditional English villages, the beauty of the countryside, and the simple magic hidden in everyday life, Peter creates worlds filled with mystery, humour, friendship, and imagination. His stories encourage young readers to look a little closer, ask questions, solve puzzles, and believe that extraordinary adventures can be found in the most ordinary places.

At the heart of Peter's work is Maplewick, a fictional village where many of his stories are set. Maplewick is more than a backdrop—it's a living world with winding lanes, cosy cottages, hidden passages, curious characters, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. As the Moonbeam Books collection continues to grow, readers are invited to return to Maplewick time and time again, discovering new adventures through different series and characters.

Peter is the creator of several original children's properties, including Moonbeam Detective Club, The Maplewick Four, Meet the Smudges, Mo the Cat & Twiglet the Piglet, Dino & Mouse, and the comic-book hero Biscuit Man. Although each series has its own personality, they all share the same belief that imagination, kindness, laughter, and curiosity can transform even the smallest moments into unforgettable adventures.

What makes Peter's work distinctive is his passion for creating not just books, but an entire storytelling universe. Alongside his novels and picture books, he is developing the Maplewick Herald, a fictional village newspaper, and the Maplewick Village Store, allowing readers to explore the world of Maplewick beyond the pages of the books. His vision is to build a place that children and families can return to again and again, discovering something new with every visit.

Before becoming a full-time storyteller, Peter spent many years developing ideas, sketching characters, designing worlds, and learning the many different skills required to bring independent publishing projects to life. Rather than taking the traditional publishing route, he embraced the challenge of building Moonbeam Books from the ground up, carefully creating everything from the stories and illustrations to the websites, branding, and growing online community.

Peter believes that children's books should be filled with warmth, hope, and genuine fun. His stories avoid talking down to young readers, instead inviting them to become part of the adventure. Whether solving mysteries with Mia Moon and her friends, laughing at the hilarious chaos of the Smudges, joining Dino and Mouse on another impossible adventure, or following Biscuit Man as he crumbles another villain, readers are encouraged to use their imagination and enjoy the journey.

Many of Peter's ideas are inspired by real places, coastal towns, countryside walks, village life, museums, libraries, old buildings, and the quiet details that most people walk past without noticing. He believes every place has a story to tell if someone is curious enough to look for it.

Today, Peter continues to expand the Moonbeam Books universe one story at a time. His long-term vision is to create a timeless collection of books, characters, and worlds that families can enjoy together for generations. While new adventures, mysteries, and characters continue to appear, one thing remains at the heart of every project:

Every book is an invitation to discover adventure, friendship, and wonder.

And wherever that journey begins, the question is always the same...

What will you discover?
